The honeymoon is officially over, folks. Last week, I got a cute skiddish dog named Gidget. This week, it has been all about establishing calm assertiveness à la Cesar Millan and getting the now outgoing (and oddly vocal) Gidget trained. The good news is I’m more stubborn than a 30 pound Corgi mix but that doesn’t mean this has been a cakewalk. There has been whining, panting, and other attention seeking behavior (her, not me). But I am firm and so far, I’m winning very small victories with crate training and basic commands. Who knew she could sit like a meerkat?!
Trying to work through the whining, here’s what’s been happening at Breaking Even Communications:
Flickr had me convinced that I was going crazy.
So I saw there was a breakingeven user on Flickr and I was pretty convinced it was me. I set up the account a couple months ago…only I couldn’t remember what email address I had set it up with. I’ve been wanting to look more into image sharing as part of a project I’m working on for a client but I wanted to set it up my Flickr presence with ‘breakingeven’ if I was able.
Like any all consuming mental block, I was obsessed. I tried all my accounts. I looked at the forums to see if what I was doing was wrong. I thought and thought and today, in an ah-ha moment, I remembered I had created a Yahoo account four years ago. Maybe I was lazy and had just used that to set it up? Bingo.
And if you are reading this and are also on Flickr, find me! I could use some help, or at least some company!
I woke up in the middle of the night and wrote something.
Ever wake up in the middle of the night with a great idea? It hasn’t happened to me in awhile but I used to wake up and write. Out of laziness and perhaps a lack of inspiration, I’ve gotten out of the habit.
I woke up last night and wrote for half an hour. Essentially the April edition of my newsletter is done but more importantly, I must be getting inspired again because my brain is working on things as I sleep.

The WordPress Workshop is almost full, and we’re already planning the next one.
It’s hard to believe the long planned workshop Matt and I have been working on is next Saturday. There are still a few open spots (you can register here) but at least Matt and I have paid for the room and put a bit of money towards the projector. More importantly, if we do a good job for this group of people, that’ll open us up to other opportunities.
We’ve decided to do a workshop on a different topic every month (May will be getting your website better positioned for web searches). This will help us keep getting our names out there and create a small stream of regular revenue. We can also reach the kind of clients I normally can’t: those people just starting out who are excited to do it themselves. I know what it’s like to start and knowing that you have cost effective tools available makes it all that much easier.
To give Matt and I topic suggestions or just see what’s coming up, you can visit www.onedayworkshop.net. (Don’t judge the design. It’s going to be our demo site for the Workshop next Saturday!)
Here’s hoping your week is going well, and is whine-free!
