Too Cute Tuesday: No Sew Bag Reprise

Too Cute Tuesday: No Sew Bag Reprise

Sam used some cool fabric she got at a yard sale, and now for a few dollars, has yet another method to hold onto Spaz. This week is another special Too Cute Tuesday. Both Sarah and Sue has visiting mothers who joined us in the fun. Kristy, who is Sarah's replacement at her job, also came and hopefully will be a regular.

Tonight is Sarah's last Tuesday, but we do hope she'll Skype with us from Saint Louis! We thought a good note to go out on was a craft that Dorrie and I only did a long time ago, back when Too Cute Tuesday was gradually becoming a group event.

Materials:
Fabric
Interface (iron on stuff that makes fabric stiff)
Iron
Scissors
Staples
Duct tape
Ribbon (go thick), for strap material (optional, you can also use additional fabric for this)

Cocktail of the Night: Box o White Wine (at $2.67 a quart, it is certainly economical!)

If you need actual directions, here is the original link.

1. Buy the box of wine at the grocery store. Have an exchange with your usual check out guy about being a classy lady. Stop at your local fabric store and buy facing/interface. Drop supplies off at Craft Central.

An Aunt Georgia Who Understands: Properly Fitting Undergarments

An Aunt Georgia Who Understands: Properly Fitting Undergarments

So glad technology has improved since back in the day...and sorry folks, was not going to take photographs of myself for this post!)€”Wikipedia Commons ImageI've been saying goodbye this week to one of my friends who is moving to Saint Louis for graduate school.

Sarah is my friend from North Carolina who for the last nine months has lived down the street from me. She has taught me a lot about being a southern girl and the other day at Bar Island, I learned about a great tip from her Aunt Georgia.

Aunt Georgia is an aunt who understands. (Mine happened to be named Aunt Peg.) Think of Aunt Georgia as the one who makes you coke floats and lets you stay up past your bedtime watching some inappropriate movie when you stay at her house.

Aunt Georgia understands, which is why she is also the aunt who will take you for a bra fitting at a nice department store.

Writing about underwear on the blog, yes, I can't believe I'm doing it. But think of undergarments as architecture. If the foundation of a building is not good, how does that bode for the building?

Here's a few compelling reasons why it's worth getting your butt to a department or lingerie store for a proper fit:

Peanut butter + bacon + milkshake = an unforgettable $5 experienceToday, I got to visit a few really good friends in Portland, Maine. Two of them are moving to Ohio (for graduate school and love of a graduate student, respectively) and this was our last horrah.

We spent the afternoon on the terrace of Silly's Restaurant, which is a neat place known for its good values, fun ambiance, and actual vegetarian/vegan items on their menu. They also have an entire page of possible milkshakes you can order with the usual ingredients (chocolate, vanilla, peanut butter) and the unusual ingredients (key lime pie, rice krispies, avocado).

On the top of the list was a bacon and peanut butter shake. Clearly, I had to get it.

For $5, I was expecting a peanut butter milkshake sprinkled in bacon bits. Oh no, it was much more.

My Free Nightly Ritual

My Free Nightly Ritual

Something I've started doing in the last month has been really helpful, and hasn't cost me a cent.

Every night around 9 pm, I go for a walk.

Sometimes I stop by a friend's house and see if she wants to go with me, sometimes I go by myself. I may change out of my work clothes or check my email first but most every night, even when I'm tired, Sadie and I take a walk downtown.

This Week In Business: Lights Camera Action

This Week In Business: Lights Camera Action

There certainly is no substitute for good press. After a favorable article in MaineBiz, people have been calling, emailing, and Facebooking me. In particular, inquiries have increased. For this, I am grateful! Here's what else has been going on.

I started filming the video that'll be on my site.
Two interviewers with local business owners down, three to go. I spent this morning trying to extract the video from yesterday's interviews off the camera only to find that I do no have a firewire port, which I may need. At times like this, I miss my old job for the technical support or even just having someone else to whine about this with. (If you live locally, I'll pay you to come over to my house and figure it out. Seriously!)

Too Cute Tuesday: Six By Six Art

Too Cute Tuesday: Six By Six Art

I was having breakfast with one of my Vinalhaven friends this past weekend. She is helping run the non-profit daycare on the island and they have an upcoming art auction. The format is 6" by 6" art pieces, anything goes. She made some mention on how they may not have enough art.

Enter Too Cute Tuesday, where we have more artists and creative energy then anyone can shake a stick at (you know, whatever that expression means!). Plus, how hard can it be to cover a 6" by 6" piece of board anyway?

Sarah fearlessly weilds an exacto knife and mixes media.
