This week, Too Cute Tuesday had it’s final installment of ‘The Month of Giving…To Ourselves.’ As the author of this blog, I got to go last. And the party lasted until 10 last night, hence posting TCT on Wednesday!
Originally I had an entirely different plan for my free labor but then, the Universe intervened. A few days ago, my neighbors had put out a bookcase in their driveway.
“You should totally take it.” my friend Sean said. I hesitated, not wanting the first introduction to my neighbors being me as the cheap-o girl next door. I waited a few days and watched it sit out in the rain longingly. Then I marched myself over and was my usual direct self. I got the bookcase!
The next order of business was how to make it pretty. Enter TCT!

Every Monday, I profile a person or company doing cool things to market themselves online and offline. Got an idea for me? Let me know!
This Marketing Monday was not inspired by my happening upon something cool in the digital world but something I saw in the real world which reminded me of the power of retail.
One of my friends hosted a girls’ weekend at her place in Vermont these last few days. Besides hanging out and catching up in a general way, we also did a few fun local things, one of them being a visit to King Arthur Flour, seemingly one of the area’s largest employers.
I would like to say I am not a shopper. I am a get in and get out kind of girl when it comes to a retail experience. Also I am not a baker. Stopping at a store that sells flour sounded about as fun to me as visiting the dentist while watching paint dry. But when you’re with friends, you go along with this sort of thing and try to have an open mind.
Twenty minutes later, I was a convert. I left the store with French style flour and a baguette pan. I happily handed over money. King Arthur had successfully made me, a self proclaimed terrible baker, want to make the perfect bread. In my opinion, here’s what King Arthur is doing right:

Hi! I missed you blog friends. You have probably been online all week. Question is, where have I been?
Besides having a busy week involving houseguests (of the two and four legged variety) a six hour road trip beginning very early Friday morning, it was hard to sneak in work (let alone fun like blogging) without a working internet connection near my house.
I almost didn’t move because of Time Warner Cable. My suspicions of hassle were confirmed as I spent the last two weeks trying to get the internet at my house, which I still didn’t have when I left yesterday.
I had happily been mooching off my neighbors connection for a few days when sometime Wednesday, the connection got weak. I was able to look at webpages and update my Facebook status sometimes but couldn’t seem to do things like attach documents to emails (you know, work). I was relieved that I was going to have my strong consistent connection on Thursday when the cable guy came to turn on my internet.

We’re wrapping up our Month Of Giving… To Ourselves here at Too Cute Tuesday. We’ve been taking turns helping our regular crafters with projects around their houses. You know, the kind of thing you’ve been meaning to do but don’t want to tackle alone.
This week, Sue wanted help hanging pictures in her guest room, which I thought sounded like almost nothing until I saw the task at hand.
The bed was covered in pictures… and there were more on the pile on the dresser. We certainly had our work cut out for us!
Sue wanted to hang a ton of pictures of her family but had no idea where to start. Sound familiar? Grab a friend and some Cosmopolitans! (Good choice, Cocktail Consultant Joe, we are classy ladies tonight.)

Every Monday, I focus on a person or company doing something cool to promote themselves online. Know a rockin internet marketing campaign? Let me know about it!
A couple weeks ago, I decided to start
my own business Facebook page. The same day, my friend Sherry (who happened to attend a talk I did about social media and who I went to high school with) decided to do the same thing for her massage business.
By the end of the day, I had some serious jealousy issues. I had 25 fans and she had… over 100. I figured I could be petty and sulky, or I could ask her what she did and how she’s planning on using it. Here’s our interview, appropriately over Facebook:
