We get caught up in the excitement of new traffic to our website as business owners but how do we get those new visitors to come back again?

Caring about our returning visitors means knowing who they are, what they are doing, and making their lives easier. Loyal customers spend 67% more than new customers (www.HelloAlice.com) so we want those loyal repeat visitors and more of them for sure.

The “easiest” way to care about return visitors is to give them something new to see on your website: new blog posts, information, free gifts, etc. (We put easy in quotes because the content isn’t easy; it just is less technical than some of the other things we are going to suggest.)

1. Understand what your repeat visitors do, not just your new traffic. You can make returning visitors a segment of your Google Analytics report for example and navigate through the different sections of the report through a returning visitor lens.
2. Fix any functional issues on your site (slow load, broken links, etc.) that would make people not come back. (Google Search Console is a tool that will help you in an ongoing way but if you want to dip your toe in, check out this post about finding issues you can fix on your website.
3. Check exit pages to see if there is anything you can do to address exits, content-wise, on those pages.
4. Implement some tricks to get people to come back: push notifications, customer loyalty/partner program, email subscribe/social follow, customized landing pages, and featured/best of section.

As usual, if you try any of this and get an uptick in returning visitors (or business), let us know!
