Marketing Monday: Your Ideas Please

I’ve had a tough sell recently and I thought I’d take it to the Breaking Even Blog readers.

A local small business counselor who sees a lot of people come through his office told me he is skeptical about social media/online marketing working for small businesses in rural Maine.

I highlight examples of businesses doing this well every week with the Marketing Monday feature on this blog. That said, I could use some small businesses, particularly in rural areas, using blogging, email newsletters, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, Youtube, and other online promotion techniques to communicate with customers and increase sales. Bonus points if the business is in Maine.

Please share your idea(s) below! Thanks for your help and ideas!

Check out Affordable Acadia Check out Affordable Acadia. They have a pretty active blog about things to do in this area and do it without any external ads. They do all this to help promote awareness of their vacation rental property. Which rental property would you pick, the one with the glossy brochure and website consisting of just a few pictures, or the one where the owners clearly know and love the area and have a website filled with information and photos about local attractions, events and history?”

    b. good Hey Nicole, This isn’t rural or in Maine, but “”"”b. good”"”" is a very small chain of restaurants in the Boston area. They are fantastic at using email, etc. to market things and get the word out. Check them out!”

London businesses Actually it might be interesting to note that here, in the centre of one of the world’s busiest capital cities, social media marketing – among independent business especially – is ubiquitous. It seems like every bar, cafe, restaurant, printers, art gallery, dry cleaner, etc. has a sign up. These guys must get 5000 people a day walk past but still presumably find the ‘bang for buck’ of Facebook and Twitter to be worth it. I can’t vouch for how good a FB page every pub in my neighbourhood has but they definitely are *everywhere*!”

An example Thought I ought to back that up with at least 1 example! This is a great local place – quaint but teeny tiny. They have an active Twitter feed and FB page.http://www.theoldredcow.com/
