Marketing Monday: Sherry Stedt, Licensed Massage Therapy

Every Monday, I focus on a person or company doing something cool to promote themselves online. Know a rockin internet marketing campaign? Let me know about it!
A couple weeks ago, I decided to start my own business Facebook page. The same day, my friend Sherry (who happened to attend a talk I did about social media and who I went to high school with) decided to do the same thing for her massage business.
Sherry's business Facebook page is proof that all you have to do to get more fans is 1) Ask and 2) Put information people want on your page. Simple...really!
By the end of the day, I had some serious jealousy issues. I had 25 fans and she had… over 100. I figured I could be petty and sulky, or I could ask her what she did and how she’s planning on using it. Here’s our interview, appropriately over Facebook:

This Week In Business: Thanksgiving While Moving Edition

I haven’t had much time to write this week because I am still working my normal amount but also moving apartments on top of that. So I spent Thanksgiving packing boxes and not eating the celebratory Chinese food I planned on eating after because the restaurant was closed. Oh well!

I am now thankful for frozen burritos and an internet connection I can mooch off of from the neighbors until mine gets hooked up.

I have managed to accomplish a few things this week, aside from not breaking any glassware…yet.

Too Cute Tuesday: Grandma LaBianca’s Holiday Cookies

I’m not sure what it was about today but it kicked my butt. It just seemed like one thing after another, and talking with friends, it doesn’t sound like it was just me that was having issues with November 24th.

Enter Too Cute Tuesday, always the perfect antidote to a crummy day. We forwent the cocktail in favor of chocolate mint oolong tea. Because alcohol is a depressant, folks and sometimes, a gal just needs a cup of tea and to whine with a friend.

I told Dorrie to give me a little Donna Reed here. I think baking and drinking tea made us both feel quite proper.

This week continues our TCT Month of Giving. Dorrie requested we help her make Christmas cookies so she could serve them at her store during the annual Midnight Madness Sale in Bar Harbor. (Bonus this week is we can eat our mistakes!)

This recipe comes from Dorrie’s Grandma Dora LaBianca. Not quite a sugar cookie, not quite shortbread, this is a cookie that’s slightly sweet and gets better as it ages. Just like us! Awesome!

Marketing Monday: American Express Open

Each Monday, I profile a person or company doing something cool online to promote themselves. If that’s you or someone you know, contact me. I love new ideas in internet marketing!

Maybe it was the television commercials with all the beautiful but also competent business owners or the fact that I’m completely fed up with my bank but I finally activated my American Express business card this weekend.

In straightening things out for my new accountant, I wanted to set up some recurring business charges and create a business only Paypal account on this new card.

I originally got this card because of the benefits (Cash back? Points for things I need? Cool!) but I realize my decision was made because of some subtle (or maybe not so subtle) things American Express has done to brand this whole Open concept.

Why I’m Getting A SCUBA Certification

I’ve recently enrolled in a SCUBA certification course. Last night, I finished my pool skills and took my final written exam. The next thing to do is an ocean dive, which is something I’ll do in the next few weeks before the water gets too cold. (Don’t worry, I’ll have a wet suit and my instructor has been doing this for over 20 years so he won’t allow me to do anything dangerous.)

The logical question is why have I thrown down $500 for a SCUBA certification (and eventually a few hundred dollars in equipment) when I don’t even have a boat?

My instructor in action!
